We are delighted to announce that Alexander Smith (Northwestern University) has been awarded the prestigious 2025 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize. This honor was presented at the International Conference on Number Theory, which took place from December 20-22, 2025, at SASTRA University in Kumbakonam, South India — Ramanujan’s hometown.

Alexander Smith is a brilliant young mathematician who has made breakthrough contributions to several long-standing problems in number theory, employing ideas from combinatorics, analytic number theory and probability in ingenious ways.

The SASTRA Ramanujan Prize, established in 2005, is awarded annually to young mathematicians for their contributions to areas influenced by Ramanujan’s work. Previous recipients include renowned mathematicians such as Manjul Bhargava (2005), Terence Tao (2006), Akshay Venkatesh (2008), Peter Scholze (2013), James Maynard (2014), and Maryna Viazovska (2017).

We congratulate Alexander Smith on this remarkable achievement and are proud that our colleague Professor Krishnaswami Alladi chairs the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize Committee.
