Applying for Simons Travel Grants

Simons’ Travel Grants for  Mathematicians are now processed as a gift through the UF Foundation. The procedure to apply is:

  1. If you haven’t done so,  create an account in the Simons Award Manager portal (if you have an existing Proposal Central account, this can be used as starting point).
  2. Then you can create your proposal and link it to the University of Florida Foundation, Inc. organizational record.
  3. Once you create an account and load everything in the system, UFF  will look at everything before it is routed for internal approvals/submission.
  4. Some important things for faculty to know when they set up their
applications in the Simons Award Manager:
    • General info: General information about using the portal can be
found here: Simons Award Manager FAQ.
    • Institution: Faculty must select “University of Florida Foundation,
Inc.” as their organization rather than “University of Florida.”
Otherwise, we cannot see and approve their applications.
    • Budget: The budget should include the maximum 20% allowable IDCs within the line that is labeled “Primary Institution Indirect
Costs.” This covers the UFF 5% gift assessment fee, and then the remainder can be recovered by the university.
    • Institutional Administrators: These names should be added to their
      application:

Please email Ken Marotte at kmarotte@ufl.edu  to express their intent to
    apply.
