Jiun Cho and Michael Waite are the recipients of the Joseph A. Alfred Mathematics Graduate Award for 2024-25. This award honors graduate students who achieve the highest combined scores on three first year semester exams, a key academic milestone in the Ph.D. program.
The award was established in 2018 by Mr. Joseph A. Alfred, who earned his master’s degree in mathematics from UF in 1972. After a distinguished 41-year career in the telecommunications industry, including roles at Southern Bell, AT&T and later his own firm, Alfred Consulting LLC, Mr. Alfred created this scholarship to give back to the department that launched his career. He credits his mathematical training at UF with preparing him for success in the fields of communications and intellectual property.
We are grateful for Mr. Alfred’s ongoing support and proud to celebrate Jiun and Michael’s outstanding academic achievements.
