Alexander Dunn (Georgia Tech) was awarded the 2024 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize, a prestigious international recognition honoring young mathematicians for outstanding contributions to areas influenced by the work of Srinivasa Ramanujan. The award ceremony took place at the International Conference on Number Theory, held December 20-22, 2024, at SASTRA University in Kumbakonam, South India – Ramanujan’s hometown.
Dr. Dunn was recognized for his remarkable contributions to analytic number theory, in particular his joint work with Maksym Radziwill that resolved the Kummer-Patterson Conjecture concerning bias in cubic Gauss sums. This breakthrough highlights both the depth and originality of his research.
Established in 2005, the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize is awarded annually to mathematicians under the age of 32. Past recipients include Manjul Bhargava (2005), Terence Tao (2006), Akshay Venkatesh (2008), Peter Scholze (2013), James Maynard (2014), and Maryna Viazovska (2017) – all of whom later received the Fields Medal.
We are proud that our colleague, Professor Krishna Alladi, chairs the prize selection committee.
