Hands-on Undergraduate Workshop: Exploring the Interplay Between
Malaria and Economic Growth

Explore the transformative role of mathematics in tackling global
health and economic challenges through this hands-on workshop on
malaria dynamics and economic growth. Co-organized by Professors
Calistus Ngonghala (University of Florida), Olivia Prosper
(University of Tennessee, Knoxville), and Ruijun Zhao (Minnesota
State University, Mankato), the event introduces mathematical
modeling techniques to analyze malaria’s health and economic
impacts. Highlights include lectures, group projects, hands-on
computer simulation sessions, panel discussions on career topics in
mathematical biology, and one-on-one mentoring sessions. Limited
financial support of up to $900 is available for eligible
participants traveling over 150 miles to Gainesville, Florida.
Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided during the event.
