In Memoriam: Professor Yuli Rudyak

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed colleague, Professor Yuli Rudyak. Professor Rudyak was a distinguished mathematician whose contributions to algebraic topology and symplectic topology have left a lasting impact on the field. His work, recognized and respected worldwide, has significantly influenced both his students and peers.

Professor Rudyak began his academic journey in Moscow, where he earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Moscow State University. Over the years, he held various positions across Europe before joining the University of Florida’s Department of Mathematics in 2001. Since then, he has been a vital member of our community, serving first as an Assistant Professor and later as a full Professor since 2008.

Throughout his career at UF, Professor Rudyak taught a wide range of courses, from introductory calculus to advanced topics in topology. His extensive knowledge and passion for mathematics inspired many students and colleagues alike. Beyond his academic achievements, Professor Rudyak was a cherished friend and mentor, known for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering support.

We extend our deepest condolences to Professor Rudyak’s family during this difficult time. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched throughout his career.
