Theral Moore Obituary

Dr. Theral Orvis Moore, 95, of Gainesville, FL died Sunday, January 15, 2023, in Gainesville. Theral was born October 16, 1927, in Emerson, Arkansas to John Richard and Audie Winn Moore. He was legally blind and attended the Arkansas School for the Blind. He attended undergraduate school and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Arkansas, he then went on to earn his PhD in Mathematics from the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 1962 he married the love of his life, Nancy Hadlock Moore who passed away in 2018. They were married 55+ years and together welcomed two sons, Steven, and David into their family. In the autumn of 1955, he began working at the University of Florida as a professor of mathematics. He worked with the university until his retirement in 2008 and continued working as professor emeritus until his full retirement in 2012. Dr. Moore had many varied interests, including the love of classical music, especially Mozart, and all sports. He remained a loyal Razorbacks fan throughout his lifetime and was also a UF Gator fan. He was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Mildred Vaughn, Les Moore.

He is survived by his sons, Steven (Kathleen) Moore and David (Pamela Grasso) Moore, a sister, Bobbie Wallace, 5 grandchildren, Sydney (Adam) Greulich, Elias Moore, Tayla (Abraham) Hunt, Thomas Horn, and Mia Moore, and great-grandchildren, Allison, Austin, Zella, and Roscoe. Also surviving are extended family members and friends. All of whom will miss his presence in their lives.

A memorial service was held Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 11:00AM at the Iona Chapel of First Presbyterian Church 106 SW 3rd St. Gainesville, with Rev. Mark Hults officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to Haven Hospice Foundation.
