Summary of New Amendents to the Dept Bylaws (April 2009)

  • Changed the definition of faculty to include Lecturers.
  • Placed a term limit on department chairpersons.
  • Changed the section on steering committee to add Lecturer representation on the committee and in participation in the vote.
  • Added detail on the timing of the steering committee election and duties of the speaker of the steering committee.
  • Added a steering committee speaker-elect.
  • Added to the duties of the steering committee reports to the faculty on both teaching assignments and department expenditures.
  • Changed the Tenure and Promotion clause to require the tenure and promotion committee to periodically review the departments tenure and promotion and merit pay guidelines and propose revisions to these documents.
  • Revised the bylaws revision process to included Lecturers and allow for mail and electronic voting.
